چکیده
Aims of course/workshop AIMS: 1. To provide an overview of brain imaging techniques (PET, fMRI, SPECT and fNIRS) and methodological approaches (e.g. bladder filling using infusion/withdrawal protocol) to study brain-bladder control. 2. Review functional brain anatomy (e.g. regions/centres) of normal and impaired bladder control and effect of clinical interventions: micturition and storage urgency and detrusor overactivity advanced age, neurodegenerative diseases, spinal cord injury imaging studies on biofeedback, anticholinergics, neuromodulation OBJECTIVES: 1. To advance understanding of brain's role and imaging methods in continence research. 2. Discuss with audience about translation of brain-imaging research into clinical practice.

Evaluation of Electron Specific Absorbed Fractions in Organs of Digimouse Voxel Phantom Using Monte Carlo Simulation Code FLUKA
Background: For preclinical evaluations of radiopharmaceuticals, most studies are carried out on mice. Values of electron specific absorbed fractions (SAF) have had vital role in the assessment of absorbed dose. In past studies, electron specific absorbed fractions were given for limited source target pairs using older reports of human organ compositions. Objective: Electron specific absorbed fr...
متن کاملFrequency of BK Polyoma Virus in Bladder Cancer
The BK virus a member of the Polyomaviruses family was first isolated from the urine of the kidney recipient. Infection with this virus and infection usually occurs in childhood (5-9 years) but most of the time (90%) of sera are positive and without symptoms. Polyomaviruses including the BK virus have also been suggested to be a contributing factor to some cancers in humans such as brain tumors...
متن کاملThe CNS and bladder dysfunction
The brain's role in the development and maintenance of bladder control is critical, although its precise role in patient-reported complaints such as urgency and urine leakage is unknown. Functional brain imaging studies have advanced our knowledge of brain activity during the micturition cycle, showing multiple neuronal circuits involved as parts of a 'brain-bladder control network.' Yet, new a...
متن کاملSolitary cerebral metastasis from transitional cell carcinoma after a 14-year remission of urinary bladder cancer treated with gemcitabine: Case report and literature review
BACKGROUND Brain metastases are the most common adult brain tumors, frequently arising from primary tumors in the lung, breast, skin, kidneys, and colon. Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC), the most common type of urinary bladder cancer, is a rare cause of brain metastasis with an ominous prognosis. CASE DESCRIPTION A 68-year-old female presented with right-sided paresis and focal motor seizur...
متن کاملSubthalamic stimulation modulates cortical control of urinary bladder in Parkinson's disease.
Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) is an effective therapy for off-period motor symptoms and dyskinesias in advanced Parkinson's disease. Clinical studies have shown that STN-DBS also ameliorates urinary bladder function in Parkinson's disease patients by delaying the first desire to void and increasing bladder capacity. This study aimed at investigating the effect of STN-DBS ...
متن کاملEstimation of Photon Specific Absorbed Fractions in Digimouse Voxel Phantom using Monte Carlo Simulation Code FLUKA
Background: Most preclinical studies are carried out on mice. For internal dose assessment of a mouse, specific absorbed fraction (SAF) values play an important role. In most studies, SAF values are estimated using older standard human organ compositions and values for limited source target pairs. Objective: SAF values for monoenergetic photons of energies 15, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 4000 keV...
